The paradigm of this college is to avoid the copycat model of schooling by basing its approach on the social usefulness of science.
The School of Applied Social Sciences in Lower Casamance continues its implementation. A scientific committee from diverse scientific backgrounds has begun an exploratory work on the contents of teaching, training and research. This committee had 6 months to validate a complex educational process that should be innovative and creative. Indeed, the paradigm of this college is to avoid “copycat” model of schooling by basing its approach on the social usefulness of science. How can we make it a useful college, oriented towards solving the theoretical and practical problems that arise in our environments. During brainstorming, the following modules have been validated and will be progressively taught starting in November 2017.
– Innovative interdisciplinary modules
– Applied Socio-anthropology,
– Applied philosophy,
– Applied comparative history,
– Rural Areas and the Environment,
– Applied linguistics,
– Ethnic and trans-border issues
– Health, hygiene and environmental systems,
– Digital humanities,
– Qualitative methods and methodologies applied
The content has already been defined, including hourly credits, methodological approaches to teaching and calendars starting at the end of 2017. A committee is already working on the legal aspects and the organization charts of the college and will have to return its findings at the latest mid February of this year.
A diversity of sites taking into account the ecological, ethnocultural
Starting in mid-February this year, a team will visit the college’s various sites to assess the logistics needs and their development.
We already have 4 functional sites as of November 2017. The main campus is located in the village Colomba. We have already two amphitheaters there with possibilities of extension in theaters to accommodate certain theoretical courses on philosophical humanities, comparative history, cross-border ethnic groups …
Another site located in the forest of Kafountine for experimental work in agro-ecology, permaculture, rural territories … We also have a laboratory site in Niafrang for endogenous alternative health teaching with lessons on systems Health, hygiene … In Ziguinchor commune, we have a site for the teachings of digital humanities with methods and methodology to account for the bandwidth constraints in Kafountine. Lessons on health modules will also be provided.
In Oussouye, we will install a site specially dedicated to the teachings of socio-anthropology and all that relates to the royal, initiatory systems, systems of social organization, political … with courses that will take place within the walls of royal courts. The kings themselves or their delegates will be called upon to teach specific hands-on courses. As can be seen, the ESSABC has made the option of diversifying its sites taking into account ecological, environmental and ethnocultural modules and contexts.
Terms of Access
The teaching staff is being finalized and we should consolidate everything by August 2017. Like the administrative and technical staff. As of April of this year, we will publish the pedagogical, administrative and financial conditions for enrollment in ESSABC. Registrations open, they can be done via our site (essabc.com) or physically. At the moment, we have premises to accommodate students who want to live on campus at the various off the College.
Dr. Moussa Sarr of Canada, Senior Scientific Advisor of ESSABC, is leading this process in relation to other resource persons to find ESSABC funding in the short, medium and long terms. A five-year strategic plan will follow in order to set a philosophical, methodological and financial framework for the college and a coherent intervention framework. A seminar will soon be organized to launch the assumptions of this strategic plan in the premises of the ESSABC in Colomba.
In addition, we have in view at this stage the signing of several protocols of scientific agreements with organizations or structures of research which have decided to trust us. We will come back to this in due course.
